The process of making lampwork beads has evolved from using the candle and the blow pipe to a oxygen/propane torch to melt the glass and create the beads before annealing them in a kiln.

The system I've perfected makes large hollow lampwork beads. This gives me the advantage of a large surface to work with colors and patterns, yet the bead is not so heavy that they can not be worn comfortably.  More thumbnails sketches of recent beads here.

In the summer of 2000, my late-husband, Walt and I were fortunate to have as house guests, Kristen Frantzen Or and her husband Russ from Phoenix. Kristen (an avid birder) and Russ spent the mornings with Walt on his Educational Wildlife Tours, looking at puffins and rhinoceros aukletsand eagles. In the afternoon we made beads. Kristen is known for her lampwork beads and unique cane. It was a special time for me and as a result my beads have evolved.
