Hello
and welcome to Susan Stanford.com, your source for information
on Alaska Lampwork Glass Beads
hand-crafted in Sitka, Alaska.
I
am an Alaskan artist, specializing in creating 'one of a kind'
Alaskan Lampwork Glass Beads.
I began
my creative work in 1979 as a furrier at our homestead on Bare
Island near Kodiak, Alaska.
|
|
For
15 years I created fine fur hats, baby mukluks, slippers, and
ear muffs.
Like
many of Alaska's artists, I found inspiration in the land I
was so fortunate to live and work in, and in the multitude of
resources Alaska provides. Many of these natural mediums soon
were part of my art and work.
|
 |
I
began making a wide variety of jewelry with combinations of Alaskan
Salmon skin, beads, silver, semi- precious stones and fossilized Alaskan
walrus ivory.
As
my ideas and creativity grew, I began making 'one of a kind' numbered
antler baskets that were sold in fine art galleries through out Alaska.
Then,
on one of my annual pilgrimages to the Tucson Gem and Mineral show
I took a class on making lampwork glass
beads. My life has not been the same.
 |
Since then I have changed my creative
focus to primarily lampwork beads, finding the wide variety of
creative techniques and design options with them to be very inspirational. |
In addition to creating beads to use
in my jewelry pieces, which can be seen at many fine arts stores throughout
Alaska (see links), I also create custom-made beads for customers.
These are 'one of a kind' beads, made
in colors of your choice, and/or, out of materials that you provide.
| Perhaps you have
a beautiful stone that you picked up during a trip with friends.
I can take that stone and use it in your design for a memento
from your trip; Do you have a place that is special to your heart?
Send me stone or sands from that area and I can use them in your
memento bead. |
